"Belarus has become my second home": the story of a student from China

Six years ago, Gao Ya came to Belarus, barely knowing the language or local traditions. Today, she is a master's student at the Faculty of Finance and Banking, speaks fluent Russian, and shares her impressions of life and study in Minsk.

"When I first arrived, I barely spoke Russian," recalls Gao Ya, "but the preparatory courses at BSEU helped me not only master the language, but also feel confident." According to her, the teachers were patient and attentive, and the Belarusian students were friendly and open.

After completing the courses, she entered the Faculty of Finance and Banking, and is now continuing her studies in the master's program in Finance and Credit. "I really like the program: the high level of teaching and the deep knowledge that I receive," the student notes.

Gao Ya lives in a student dormitory and is happy with her living conditions. "The rooms are clean and cozy, everything you need is there," she says. Minsk has become a comfortable and calm city for her: “It’s clean, quiet, and the people are kind and responsive.”

Gao Ya’s story has inspired her family: now her younger sister is also studying at the BSEU preparatory courses.

When asked what advice she would give to foreign applicants, Gao Ya answers: “Don’t be afraid to come to Belarus — they will always support you here. The main thing is to learn Russian. This is important for studying, communicating, and adapting. And, of course, you need to try, make an effort — then everything will work out.”

Gao Ya does not plan to stop there. Her plans include entering graduate school. “I want to continue my studies and engage in scientific work. Belarus has given me a chance to realize myself, and I intend to use it to the fullest.”
