BSEU Student Wins Chinese Ambassador's Award

Anastasia Alayeva, a fourth-year student in the Faculty of International Business Communications at BSEU, has won the Chinese Ambassador's Award.

The award is given annually to students and schoolchildren to help them learn Chinese and understand Chinese culture.

Anastasia began studying Chinese as part of her faculty's program, which teaches students several foreign languages simultaneously. "I started studying it in my second year, so I've been studying it for over three years," she explains.

During this time, she not only mastered the basics of the language but also completed language courses at Beijing International Studies University, where she attended a government program. This trip became a turning point for her: "Before my trip to China, I wasn't particularly interested in Chinese culture, but once I got there, I was amazed at how rich and interesting it was."

Despite focusing primarily on preparing for the HSK language exams, Anastasia managed to participate in poetry competitions in Chinese. However, she considers live communication to be her most important achievement: "For me, the most significant achievement is the fact that I can speak Chinese with native speakers and have them understand me."

Knowledge of the language has also proven useful in everyday life. Recently, Anastasia found herself in an unexpected situation when she needed translation: "I had to help with translation at a hospital where they were preparing to operate on a Chinese student".

Anastasia is confident that her journey in learning Chinese is just beginning. The knowledge and experience she gained at BSEU have become a solid foundation, and she is now considering continuing her education: "I really want to go to China again—I would like to complete my master's degree there," she says.
