Demography and strategy: a dialogue between BSEU experts and UN representatives on the future of society

On December 2, 2025, representatives of the Belarus State Economic University participated in the seminar "National Transfer Accounts and their use in the development of national strategies and government programs", organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
This seminar was held within the framework of the joint project of the UN agencies "Support for the efforts of the Republic of Belarus in the nationalization and localization of the Sustainable Development Goals", approved by the Government. This highlights the importance of interagency cooperation and international experience for effectively addressing the challenges facing the modern economy and society.
The event became a dialogue platform for the exchange of international best practices, strengthening cooperation between government agencies and the scientific community in the field of demographic policy and economics. The seminar brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives of key departments, research centers and universities. Leading experts from different countries shared their views on the role of national transfer accounts (NTS) in the development of the state.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the presentation by Mikhail Denisenko, Director of the Vishnevsky Institute of Demography, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor. In his report, he highlighted in detail the importance of the national statistical system for making informed decisions in the field of public administration.

In addition, presentations were made by Irina Sergeichenko, Head of the Main Department of National Accounts of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, as well as other recognized experts in the field of demography and macroeconomics. Their professional comments contributed to an in-depth discussion of topical issues and strengthened cooperation between government agencies and the scientific community.
The Belarus State Economic University was represented at the seminar: Natalia Besetskaya, PhD. jurid. Associate Professor, Head of the Center for System Analysis, Associate Professors of the Department of Statistics Kulak Alla Gennadievna, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Makarevich Elena Evgenievna, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Sharilova Evgeniya Evgenievna, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor.
The participants discussed important issues related to the formation and use of national transfer accounts, which make it possible to take into account the long-term economic consequences of population aging, plan social programs, ensure the sustainability of pension systems and increase the efficiency of budget expenditures.
Thus, the meeting was not just an exchange of professional opinions, but also an important step towards forming a unified development strategy. The expert dialogue has become a platform where ideas for the future are born, and the joint efforts of science and government open up new horizons for the sustainable and dynamic growth of the Belarusian economy.
