At the age of 78, former Rector of the Belarusian State Economic University Vladimir Nikolaevich Shimov passed away

At the age of 78, former Rector of the Belarusian State Economic University Vladimir Nikolaevich Shimov passed away – an outstanding Belarusian scientist, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, former Minister of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, Honored Worker of Education of the Republic of Belarus, Honorary Professor of BSEU.

Vladimir Nikolaevich held the position of Rector of BSEU from 2002 to 2019. Over these years, under his leadership, the university achieved significant successes in the development of educational and scientific activities, strengthened its position as a leading economic higher education institution of the country, expanded international cooperation and trained thousands of highly qualified specialists for the economy of Belarus.

Vladimir Nikolaevich stood at the origins of the scientific-pedagogical school of national economy. He published more than 220 scientific works. Under his scientific supervision, 7 Doctors of Sciences and 11 Candidates of Sciences were trained.

The high professionalism of Vladimir Nikolaevich was recognized with numerous state awards: the Order of Honor (2007), the Order of the Fatherland III Class (2018), the Gold Medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2018). He was also awarded Honorary Certificates and Gratitudes of the President of the Republic of Belarus, the Council of Ministers, the National Assembly, the National Academy of Sciences, the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Higher Attestation Commission. In 2013, he became a laureate of the International Alferov Foundation Prize for the Support of Education and Science.

The staff of the Belarusian State Economic University expresses deep condolences to the family, relatives, students and all who knew Vladimir Nikolaevich.
