Maslenitsa at the Faculty of International Economic Relations

On February 22, activists of the FIER told and showed students from China why they love Maslenitsa. The holiday in honor of the imminent end of winter was accompanied by a bright sun from the window, traditional treats and Belarusian dances.
This year, Pancake week began on February 20. Since that day, pancakes have become the favorite food of BSEU students. The FIER student activist decided to transfer a piece of his culture to the Chinese group of first-year students. On Wednesday, which is called “gourmet” according to the Maslenitsa tradition, the FIER members made a bright presentation in English. They told on which of the seven days of the holiday one should ask forgiveness from each other, on which one - to sing ditties, explained why it is necessary to burn the effigy of Maslenitsa on the last day of the week and treated them with home-made pancakes and cheesecakes.
“We try to organize events for Belarusian and foreign students every month,” said Elena GARASHCHENKO, deputy dean of the faculty. - “It is useful for uniting groups and future friendship between our countries.”
After the presentation, it was decided to teach the Chinese students some moves from the popular Belarusian folk dance “Lyavonikha” and then chat around a table full of treats. In such a friendly atmosphere, foreign students learned Belarusian words, got acquainted with our culture and, on the recommendation of senior students, just like Belarusians, poured condensed milk on pancakes.
