Round table "Latin American vector in international cooperation: economic and socio-cultural aspects"

On March 17, a traditional scientific event was held at the Center for Latin American Studies at the FIBC with the participation of representatives of diplomatic missions of Latin American countries in the Republic of Belarus.

This time, the round table is dedicated to the anniversary of the Belarusian State Economic University, as well as the 20th anniversary of the FMBK, which the faculty celebrated in November 2022. Addressing students studying Spanish and Portuguese, Vice-Rector for Academic Activities Olga MOROZEVICH and Dean of the Faculty Yulia SHAVRUK emphasized that the BSEU Center for Latin American Studies is unique, because it has no analogues in our country. And the opportunity to communicate with representatives of diplomatic circles is unprecedented in terms of immersion in the national worldview of such colorful countries as Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela.

The participants of the scientific round table discussed the peculiarities of the economic, social and cultural development of the Latin American region, as well as the state and prospects of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and Latin America. The head of the Department of International Business, an expert from the World Trade Organization in the Republic of Belarus, Galina TURBAN, in her speech touched on the trends and prospects for international trade, noting that the opening of the Center for Latin American Studies contributed to the growth of BSEU students' interest not only in learning Spanish and Portuguese, but also in choice of topics for term papers and dissertations. This is a kind of response to the actively expanding cooperation between our country and Latin American countries in such areas as education, medicine, science, technology, construction, tourism, culture, IT technologies, etc.

It is impossible not to note the cultural program of the event: as a musical break, a composition in Spanish “La Lliorona” was performed by university students. The work was not chosen by chance: La Lliorona is one of the key Latin American folklore characters.

We thank the guests of honor for their interest in the event, express our hope for further fruitful cooperation and invite all students and teachers of BSEU to participate in the work of the Latin American Vector next year!
