III Championship of the Republic of Belarus in Chinese chess (xiangqi) among students

On March 25, the Belarusian State Economic University hosted the III Championship of the Republic of Belarus in Chinese chess (xiangqi) among students. It was attended by about sixty students and schoolchildren, including students from China, who passed all stages of the preliminary selection. Age of participants - from 6 to 25 years. The tournament was held on the basis of the Faculty of International Business Communications as part of the activities of the Belarusian State Economic University of the Confucius Cabinet of the Republican Institute of Sinology named after. Confucius BSU.

The purpose of the tournament is to attract the attention of a wide range of young students to the values of the intangible cultural heritage of China, to develop and promote the game of xiangqi in the Republic of Belarus, to form the younger generation through the game of xiangqi interest in the Chinese language and culture.

The organizer-partner of the event was the Belarusian Federation of Chinese Chess, which provided the necessary number of game sets, and also formed the judging panel of the tournament. Many participants of the competition, especially in the younger age categories, are students of Chinese chess sections, which are led by federation coaches, at schools and institutions of additional education for schoolchildren in Minsk.
As a result of the tournament, the winners were awarded diplomas, medals, and the absolute winners - cups. The kids were also treated to a delicious lunch, and all participants received sweet prizes. Tournament participants studying in high school also learned about the possibilities of entering the Belarusian State Economic University and studying the Chinese language, culture and economic disciplines at the Faculty of International Business Communications

Belarusian xiangqi is the leader in Europe in terms of the number of players; this type of intellectual martial art has been actively developing in the country since 2015. In 2019 Belarus hosted the European Xiangqi Championship. Chinese chess is the most popular intellectual game in the world, mainly due to its popularity in China, Vietnam and Malaysia.
