New horizons of Belarusian-Brazilian cooperation

On September 14, an official visit of the delegation of the Federative Republic of Brazil to BSEU took place. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Bernard Jorg Leopold De Garcia Klingl, personally arrived at the university to attend the ceremony of signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal University of Minas Gerais, which is one of the top 10 universities in Latin America.

The document was signed by the rectors of both universities, Alexei Egorov and Sandra Regina Gulart Almeida. Alexei Egorov thanked the representatives of the delegation for new opportunities for cooperation in the educational and scientific spheres and expressed hope for further fruitful interaction.

During the visit, representatives of the Brazilian delegation visited a class on the Portuguese language at the Center for Portuguese Language and Culture, which has been successfully operating at BSEU since 2017, as well as the university library.

At a press conference that took place at the end of the negotiations at the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Bernard Jorg Leopold de Garcia Klingl called the signing of bilateral documents in this area a significant event and a real breakthrough in the field of Belarusian-Brazilian educational cooperation. University Rector Sandra Regina Goulart Almeida expressed the opinion that the signing of memorandums opens up new ways of cooperation with Belarus.

The signing of the Memorandum was preceded by a lot of preparatory work done by both parties: meetings and online negotiations were held several times, and on September 7, students of the Faculty of International Business Communications studying Portuguese took part in a diplomatic reception on the occasion of the 201st anniversary of the independence of the Federative Republic of Brazil. Inviting students to such events is a kind of know-how of the Brazilian Embassy in the Republic of Belarus, indicating the high potential and importance of educational contacts for the development of bilateral cooperation between our countries.
Vice-Rector for Academic Activities Olga Morozevich, Dean of FIBC Yulia Shavruk, Head of the Department of German and Romance Languages Marina Komarova presented Mr. Ambassador with a congratulatory address on behalf of the Rector of BSEU Alexei Egorov.

Mr. Bernard Jorg Leopold de Garcia Klingl notes that during the year of his mission in our country, he fell in love with Belarus with all his heart and it is no coincidence that he began to establish bilateral relations in the field of higher education with three universities, including BSEU, since it is in this area that our countries have a lot to learn each other.
