Meeting with the Head of the Main Department of Justice of the Minsk City Executive Committee Andrei Vasilievich MALTSEV

On September 29, at BSEU, a meeting was held between the Head of the Main Department of Justice of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Andrei Vasilyevich MALTSEV, and first-year students of FMBK and ISGS. Round table “Country sovereignty. Preservation of Historical Memory” was opened by the first vice-rector Tatyana Vladimirovna SADOWSKAYA. She welcomed the speaker to our university and noted with particular joy that this was Andrei Vasilyevich’s third visit to BSEU.
At the beginning of the dialogue, Andrei Vasilievich asked the students to define the term “sovereignty”. The BSEU students answered immediately that this is the complete independence of the state in its internal affairs and foreign policy. Then everyone discussed together whether sovereignty exists in its pure form. Afterwards, Andrei Vasilyevich continued: “Now there is a change of two eras. Two technological structures. The last century was the century of hydrocarbons. All the conflicts took place around oil. Today, the engine of any processes in the state is information.” Andrei Vasilievich immersed students in the most interesting context of changing epochal structures and explained why today those who own information own the world. “To deprive a state of sovereignty, it is enough to shake it up from within,” the speaker said. - Colleagues, please always treat information analytically. Do not “swallow” everything that is given to you with ready-made conclusions. You must draw your own conclusions from as many different sources as possible.” Andrei Vasilyevich reminded why we so often hear the phrase “preserving historical memory” today: “We know very well what Belarus went through during the Great Patriotic War. No country, unlike us, has lost every third resident.” Whatever information caught their eye, the speaker urged students to rely on knowledge, analyze, compare and not allow themselves to be manipulated. The first vice-rector of BSEU made the same request to the guys: “The university is the place where you are taught to think. You must learn to think critically about information, try to understand more deeply what is happening and form your own opinions.”
Finally, the guest of honor paid special attention to the topic of Internet security and asked students to remember one simple thing: “There used to be a saying that what is written with a pen cannot be cut down with an axe. It is more relevant now than ever. Every step you take on the Internet leaves a trace. Before you open or like something, think. This action will always stay with you."
