International round table “The role of social sciences and humanities in ensuring national security”

On January 22, at the initiative of the Council of Young Scientists and the activists of the “Young Analysts of Belarus” club, a round table “The Role of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ensuring National Security” was held at BSEU. In his welcoming speech, Vice-Rector for Research Egor Gusakov noted that today we are faced with challenges to the global world order from political turbulence and military activity, hybrid threats, economic sanctions and information confrontation. Representatives of the social sciences and humanities should, of course, also make their contribution to the development of adequate responses to these challenges.
The relevance of this event is also due to the fact that the Republic of Belarus continues to actively discuss the draft new National Security Concept, which will soon be submitted for approval by the All-Belarusian People's Assembly.
The head of the cycle of the department of ideological work and social sciences of the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Gorodnichenko, in his report presented an analysis of various approaches to the interpretation of the phenomenon of political security - the leading element of the national security system. Associate Professor at the Academy of Management under the President of the Republic of Belarus Alla Shevtsova described the processes of political regionalization in the countries of Eastern Europe and their potential impact on the configuration of the national security system of our country. Scientists from Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University (Svetlana Kolobova, Yulia Chicherina, Artem Shishko) shared their vision of language policy in the CIS countries.
Reports by a leading researcher at the Institute of International Economics and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gronsky, members of the Research Committee of the Russian Association of Political Science on Interregional International Cooperation Olga Pustoshinskaya and Anton Arutyunov were devoted to the humanitarian foundations of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation within the framework of the Union State. The lively interest of the event participants was aroused by the speech of Kirill Shevchenko, who shared the experience of international research projects implemented by the Center for Eurasian Studies of the branch of the Russian State Social University in Minsk (which is the only educational institution created at the expense of the budget of the Union State).
Deputy Director for Scientific and Innovation Work of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Nikolai Sukhotsky, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of BSEU Oleg Kazak also presented their experience in conducting scientific research. Oleg Kazak placed special emphasis on research projects of students and young scientists of the department (analysis of political communication, foreign policy activities of the Republic of Belarus, history and current state of ethnopolitical processes in Belarus and foreign countries), the results of which can objectively contribute to the practical implementation of the principles of the updated National Security Concept of the Republic of Belarus .
The round table participants noted the high level of organization of the event, the constructive nature of the discussion and exchange of opinions between young and experienced scientists.
